Fireman in Training Held Past 6 Months

Your claim:

  • When you have been held as a FIT past 6 months through no fault of your own.

  • Claim a basic day for each day held as an FIT and you have not been qualified through no fault of your own.

Required Documentation:

  • Work History showing when you have started as a Fireman in Training

  • Work History showing each day you have not been qualified as an Engineer

  • Bulletin and Award showing that you were successfully chosen for Engine Service Training

EXAMPLE:

Claiming a basic day for (DATES) in addition to all earnings for being held past 6 months in the Fireman in Training. Claimant (NAME) started FIT class on (DATE) and was assigned to the (Circ 7) (FIT Training Board).I should have been qualified on (DATE) and have not been through no fault of my own. This is fully supported by Article II, Section B3 of the 1978 Mediation Agreement which states:

While the selected individual is in the Engine Service Training Program (this refers to the time the selected individual is in the "formal" training program, i.e., that portion of the training program which includes classroom training, student trips, etc., and is not to exceed six months) …
