The Claim:

  • When called off the road and are instructed to hostle power not in connection with your train within switching limits and appropriate hostlers/yardmen were available.

  • The penalty is for a 130 mile basic day as per PLB #5912, Case#125, Award 125

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:

  • A copy of your federal tie-up.

  • Any track inquiry, train list, power report, or BU that you can print and show the power on your train

  • Train equipment trace (my up-train-equipment trace-locmotive id) showing the unit(s) improperly handled.

  • A printed snap shot of the switchman/hostler extra board, showing available switchmen/hostler.

  • List unit number(s), yard, tracks, and times:

    • For cutting away, changing directions, etc.

    • For moves entering, shoving, coming against other power/trains

    • For coming back against your train.

    • You can’t have too much documentation on these claims.

    • Keep track of who instructed you to perform the service (yardmaster’s or manager’s title and name) 

REQUIRED CLAIM LANGUAGE:

Was called off the   (circ 7 and board)  on   (date)   @ ____ hrs for the    (road job/symbol) . At ____ hrs was instructed per  (yardmaster/manager’s name) to perform the following hostling move with no connection to my assignment:

(include all details: unit number(s), yard, track#, times, route taken, etc)

 Claim basic day for hostling power not in connection with train as per PLB#5912, Case#125, Award 125, and SBA 18, Award 5978. 

NOTE:

Make certain to pass all pertinent info along to the person(s) that should have properly been called to perform the work, as they also should file a mishandling claim.
